When the first Chinmaya Nursery School was opened at Kollengode on 20.05.1965,Poojya Swami Chinmayananda wrote from London
"Children are the very cream of our generation and they are the rulers and makers of tomorrow. Upon them depends the future of the nation and the safety of our culture and tradition. Let us give them a healthy, physical and mental atmosphere growth, ingrain in them respect for life, and love for living creatures, team spirit and national fervour and pride in our hallowed divine culture.
I am sure such schools will grow up every where throughout the country under the benign patronage and service of our Mission branches. It should never be run for profit at any time. We shall use all income to pay the teachers well, expand the infrastructure and enrich education."
The Vidyalaya was started by Smt. Radha Devi Nambudiipad, the then Elaya Thamburathy of Kalari Kovilakam. In the Chinmaya chain of schools, she was the first lady to start the first school in Kollengode, and the Nursery was started in the year 1965 on May 20th in Kalari Kovilakam Guest house and is set in a rural area.
The Vidyalaya imparts value – based education to the children which paves the way for the Integrated Development of the Physical, Mental, intellectual and spiritual aspects of the personality, enriched by knowledge of Indian Culture, a feeling of patriotism and universal outlook.
Two scholarships are awarded to 4 outstanding students possessing academic excellence but economically backward with a view to encouraging them to perform better. We have also registered ourselves with the Spicmacay Organization.
Academic training workshops are also held for the teaching faculty to upgrade and update themselves by experts from CBSE, Management training groups and other organizations arranged by Sahodaya.
Community service is also taken up as a project where service is given to an old age home and orphanage to help the poor and needy and in turn helping to imbibe values in children.
The Vidyalaya is upgraded to Sr Sec level in the year 2011 and has a strength of 553 students and 23 qualified teachers to impart high Quality Education. It has a full fledged computer Lab, Mathematics Lab, Science Lab and a good Library which tends to the needs of the children.
This Vidyalaya is managed by the Vidyalaya Managing Committee which is run by Chinmaya Mission Educational and Cultural Trust, Palakkad, Kerala.
